Gentle Spirit: Philippians 4:5

5Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near.

Philippians 4:5 (AMP)

Let your gentleness be evident to all, or as some versions say, let your gentle spirit, gracious attitude, or graciousness be known to all. These derive from the Greek word epiekes, which can translate to; gracious, fair, gentle, reasonable, tolerant, and forbearing. Whatever translation/definition you prefer, it should convey that Christians need to be reasonable, wise, and tolerant people; not easily angered.

Gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit, a fruit; that we need to cultivate in our hearts; and show in our actions. Gentleness and patience; are attributes that allow people to feel at ease around you.

The Lord is near; we should learn to emulate him in gentleness and with conduct that is honorable.

Jesus said:

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 11:29 (NIV)

Do you consider yourself to have a gentle spirit?

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for Your tolerance and grace toward us. Help us to be gentle and tolerant to others. Guide us on Your path for us and help us to emulate Jesus. Like the native sunflower, gently opening its petals help us to have a gentle spirit; and be tolerant in our dealings with other. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Rest for Soul: Matthew 11:29

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 11:29 (NIV)

A yoke is a device used to harness animals to attach them to a plow or cart. Jesus asks us to take His yoke and let him control and direct our life; learn from Him. As an instructor, He is gentle and humble. He teaches with fairness and patience. For; Jesus is humble in heart. His priority is always God’s will, not his own. Like Him, we need to follow God’s will and let go of our pride.

Jesus’s yoke is lined with love and brings peace and joy; rest for our souls.

Are you tired of trying to find your way and failing? If we accept God’s guidance and let go of pride, we find rest for our souls.

Prayer; Lord Jesus, thank You for Your guidance and salvation. Help us to realize what is important in life. Teach us to be humble; let go of pride and walk with You. Like the clematis flower is open and rests against the post, let us be open to God’s will and find rest for our souls. Amen
