Shield of Salvation: Psalm 18:35

Bougainvillea

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great.

Psalm 18:35 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your gentleness made me great.
2 Samuel 22:36 (ESV)

Psalm 18 (a Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord) David was grateful to the Lord for deliverance from his enemies. God, our shield of salvation, by His right hand, we are protected and strengthened by His power. God is mighty, but He is also gentle, as is exemplified in Jesus. Jesus felt the suffering around Him and was compassionate and caring. When we follow Jesus’ compassion it deepens our soul in love, kindling gentleness in us toward others.

Where can you share God’s shield of salvation, kindness, and gentleness with others?

Prayer: Our loving Father, our shield of salvation and strength. We are blessed by your gentleness, care, and protection. The Bougainvillea tiny white flowers glow in the showy bracts surrounding them, let us likewise be humble and glow with Your compassion and gentleness. In Jesus’ holy name. Amen

  1. I agree Dawn, gentleness is sometimes missing in our fast paced environment. Gentleness is one of the fruits of the spirit – a product of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. A good thing to strive towards

    1. I enjoy Psalms too, they are full of God’s goodness, love, and grace. I love in Psalm 18 where its says, “and your gentleness makes me great”. It is good hearing from you Deborah!
