Search me God: Psalm 139:23-24

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23-24

David knew anxiety; he was pursued and fought many battles. Yet David continually praised, sang, and rejoiced in the Lord. He reaches out to God, asking for protection and strength. In humility, he asks God to look at his heart, to discern his inner thoughts. To search him to look for any sin and to deliver him from evil. David asks for notification of any ungodliness found; so he can be purified, cleansed of anything not of God. David opens his heart to God, asking Him to guide him on the path of righteousness that leads to everlasting life. This searching, purifying, and guidance is as appropriate today as it was in David’s time.

Are you willing to have God search you and test you, remove your weaknesses and sin like David, to allow God to lead you in the way of everlasting?

Prayer; Our Heavenly Father, you know our inner thoughts and fears. Teach us to open our hearts to You and reach out to You for guidance. Lord, search us and check our ways, guide us toward Your way. Lead us on Your pathway to everlasting. Like the open blossoms of the rose, reach for the sun, let us be open-hearted, and reach for your help and guidance. In Jesus’ loving and holy name. Amen

Light and Truth: Psalm 43:3

Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live.

Psalm 43:3 (NLT)

When we have challenges and difficulties, like the psalmist, we need to ask God to send His light and truth to guide our path, to lead us. In times of trouble and darkness, when we feel lost, we need to ask God to show us His mercy, pour into us the brightness of hope. To ask God to guide us away from sin and lead us in righteousness to the place where He lives.

Pour into me the brightness of your daybreak!
Pour into me your rays of revelation-truth!
Let them comfort and gently lead me onto the shining path,
showing the way into your burning presence,
into your many sanctuaries of holiness.

Psalm 43:3 (TPT)

Are shadows of darkness blocking your view of the light, truth, and bright hope of Jesus?

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your mercy and grace. Let Your light and truth guide our path. Forgive us our sins and lead us in the way of holiness and righteousness. Lord, fill us with Your light and grant us Your peace. Like the beauty of the bright opening blossoms of the crepe myrtle, help us to shine with your bright light and be open-hearted to Your way. In Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen

Grace to the Humble: James 4: 6-7

6 But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “God is opposed to the proud and haughty, but [continually] gives [the gift of] grace to the humble [who turn away from self-righteousness].” 7 So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.

 James 4:6-7 (AMP)

God is asking us to trust Him and follow His way; to resist sin and turn away from self-righteousness and pride. God is asking us to be humble and faithful to repent of sin and receive His grace. For when we yield to worldly pursuits, we turn away from God. When we follow God’s way and stand firm in faith, rejecting temptation, pride, and envy, the devil will flee. God continually gives grace to the humble.

The humble who turn away from self-righteousness receive grace. What worldly pursuit or pride is keeping you from trusting God’s way?

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for Your guidance, forgiveness, patience, and grace. Teach us to be humble, to trust You, and turn away from worldly pursuits. Lead us on the path of righteousness and give us the strength to resist evil. Like the white, open blossoms of the petunia turn toward the sun, let us be open to Your word and turn toward Your light. In Jesus’ holy and loving name. Amen
